Welcome in! We love unique coffee shops here at Beanventures. Whether they be in a near-underground location (Portal West), make you feel like you’re in Italy (Cafe Arnone), or in the shadow of truly breathtaking mountain views (sneak peek for what’s to come), we enjoy those special and specific experiences that you can only get when going to a coffee shop. Which is why we were so excited to visit Asterisk Coffee in downtown Cuyahoga Falls; because it’s not every day you come across a shop that can both serve you outstanding coffee and amazing spirits!
Now, just the area itself is known to be cute and inviting. It should be no surprise, then, that Asterisk Coffee crafted a wonderfully-welcoming and modern environment for its patrons. Its overall aesthetic can be summed up in one word: bold. White and black tones make up a sharp contrast within the shop, while subtle brass fixtures, local artwork, and plants help provide warm color splashes. There’s excellent lighting, too, for both task-oriented work by the tables and warm conversations near the sofas.
We came on mid-morning Saturday, and they were definitely popular! Almost a bit too much, as it got quite loud in the shop then. The music the shop played was set to a good volume, though, and it helped to break up the outside conversations. We took a seat at the tables and waited for our drinks (more on that later), which led us to our only gripe; outlet placement. We couldn’t find that many near the table or bar area, which could mean that long working sessions could be tricky here. Nothing that external power banks can’t help! And this shop is still great for chilling and hanging out.
Overall, Asterisk Coffee seems to do the essentials well, with good variety for both coffee and tea lovers (they have matcha, if you’re into that sort of thing). Additionally, they offer spirits as well! Their liquor selection is solid (even for most bars), and they’re open until 6 PM so this could be the spot if you’re looking for an afternoon or early-dinner drink.
*Mug alert* Yes! They have for-here mugs for every size (ranging from macchiato to latte), which is always a plus in our book. Pulse, they featured pink lids for their to-go cups, which we can only assume is for upcoming Breast Cancer Awareness month (which is a major plus in our book).
Kali: Kali decided to branch out today and have a honey cortado. After that initial sip and letting the coffee touch her soul, she described it as, “Heavenly. As if God handed it to me and said this is what coffee should be. Anything/everything else is unacceptable”. I (Jason) tried it as well: the honey added to the drink well. It didn’t overpower or upstage, it beautifully complemented!
Jason: Once again, Jason got his mainstay, the cortado. He says the shot was pulled well and the milk was textured beautifully. If he had to split hairs, he said the espresso was missing those lovely sour notes, which could be a result of his personal taste.
The shop features outdoor seating in scenic downtown Cuyahoga Falls and coffee from Akron Coffee Roasters (review for that shop coming soon). All in all, this is truly a unique shop to check out and we can’t wait to visit again!
