Evelyn's Coffee

Hey there, welcome in! It’s no secret that we Beanventurer’s love coffee; from the traditional cappuccino to the modern pumpkin spice latte. But, what we love even more is broadening our horizons with how different cultures and peoples brew this amazing drink. We’ve had Italian-inspired, Australian-inspired, Korean, traditional Americana, modern Americana (Heartwood and Portal West) and everything in-between. We love learning how different people prepare the same drink, which is why we were so excited to try Evelyn’s Coffee and their Vietnamese-inspired menu! So come with us on this adventure, and get ready to try something new.

After parking across the street, we had to walk up and down the street a bit before finally finding the entrance leading downstairs into the shop. This place is definitely a hole in the wall: small, but intentional. There’s a smattering of tables inside and a long bar along the back wall. After checking their website, the owner’s wanted to “[...] serve the community as a place where students can study, and a place where people would feel welcome and can gather for good, meaningful conversations”, which we think they did a good job at.

We went in during the shop’s off hours: Friday mid-morning. It was quiet and sparse, but the music in the background helped cut the silence and create a relaxing mood. I personally wouldn’t mind coming back here with a good book or newspaper.

Aside from their large coffee and tea selections, of which they include Vietnamese Iced coffee, several Matcha types, and various teas, they also offer a mouth-watering food menu serving traditional Vietnamese cuisine. We were told that we had to try the Bánh Mì next time, which we will definitely make a special trip out for!

Is there a mug alert? No, unfortunately. Since we knew we were making another trip back, we decided to see how their espresso compared to their coffee. We were both feeling especially sleepy on this rainy Friday morning, so we went for cortados; Kali’s with oat milk and Jason’s with regular. The milk was textured to the right temperature, and the shot was definitely on the bitter-end. Those of us who like the more conventional dark roast coffee might enjoy this drink more than usual here. All in all, we were satisfied with our time at Evelyn’s and we can’t wait to go back!
