Welcome in! Today, we were craving the Italian feel, so we thought we’d go to a traditional Italian cafe; in downtown Fairlawn! We’re talking about Cafe Arnone in Fairlawn Ohio (right down the road from Nervous Dog), known for its rich history, tasty gelato, and, of course, coffee!
Without sounding too much like a broken record, the place feels very, well, Italian! From its white subway tile backsplashes, to its leafy-green gelato wall, and the vespa sitting next to the wine display, it’s easy to forget you’re in Ohio. There’s plenty of cafe-style seating within the shop, and two (technically three!) areas to sit and relax: a smaller seating area next the coffee bar for easy mornings and intimate catch-ups, and a larger dining-room style seating area that’s nice for larger groups.
Speaking of groups, it was fairly busy for a weekday, which meant that the noise level was enough to keep a private conversation but not too much to drown it out (similar to Portal West).
When you first walk through the door, you are introduced to the large pastry display full of cannolis, tiramisu, cakes, and even spinach muffins (Kali had one, and they were delicious!). If we weren’t such coffee nerds, we would be perfectly happy just getting a pastry. But we are, so let’s talk coffee. Along with the essential espresso drinks, they have a variety of seasonal drinks, teas, and signature beverages. For the real coffee nuts, they even offer Chemix and V60 pour overs.
*Mug alert* They featured unique mugs branded with their Cafe Arnone logo. Kali had a cold brew with oat milk and vanilla. All in all, it tasted more like an iced coffee and less like a cold brew. But the vanilla flavor was good. Jason had his mainstay: the cortado. Though the milk texture was decent, the espresso was missing those nice sour notes that help bring out the beans’ sweetness. It could be that, since this is an Italian cafe, they err on the bitter side and the shot wasn’t actually over-extracted.
Cafe Arnone is definitely a unique coffee shop. In addition to serving gelato and authentic Italian pastas, they have additional outdoor seating for nice days and a drive-through. This is definitely the place to bring that friend you needed to catch up with and split a pastry together. Seriously, we cannot recommend the spinach muffin enough. Until next time, ciao!
